Support Malachi Place of Safety Today:
Transforming Lives, One Child at a Time
Malachi Place of Safety was established in 2005 in Cape Town, South Africa by the Brummer family in response to the urgent need for a safe haven for abused and abandoned children. Since its inception, they have provided a loving and caring environment for over 160 children who have experienced trauma, aiming to restore their trust in adults and give them hope for the future. With a strong commitment to providing a nurturing environment, Malachi Place of Safety has been instrumental in transforming the lives of countless vulnerable children. However, the organisation is facing financial challenges, and they are seeking support to ensure its continued success.
The organisation has been mostly funded from the Brummer family’s own income. Ruan, who served as a policeman in the South African Police Service’s Child Protection Unit for over 30 years, along with his wife, has opened their home and their pockets to support over 160 children in the last 18 years. Ruan retired in 2021, and since then, he has been financing Malachi Place of Safety from his own pension. However, this is not a long-term solution as his pension is dwindling.
The Brummers demonstrate unwavering dedication in their efforts to maintain the operation of Malachi Place of Safety. While they do receive financial assistance from the government, the allocated grant of R33.00 per day falls considerably short of meeting the essential needs necessary for adequate child care. As a result, they depend on the kindness of sponsors and donors to fill this funding gap. The foster care grant amounts to R1050 per month, and the safety grant is R33 per day. Unfortunately, they have not received the grant for certain children in over two years.
In order to sustain the ongoing operations of the home, Malachi Place of Safety is launching a campaign to appeal to members of the public for monthly donations towards this worthwhile mission. Contributions can be as little as R100 per month or as much as the donors can afford. The current funding deficit to keep Malachi going is over R50,000/ month.
